Randomness, Books and a lil sum’ sum’
We begin with the randomness. Where is Osama? Not Osama Abubaker. I saw him yesterday at the supermarket. I mean the famous one, Osama Bin Ladin? Is he alive? Was he ever alive? I’m beginning to think that he was a figment of Bush’s imagination. Maybe Bush is schizo. It makes sense. They must have realized it after he started making decisions. A bit too late, so they did what they could with the damage control. The side effects of antipsychotic drugs explain the last five years perfectly. It’s a possibility, think on it.
And I didn’t come up that with just because my supper last night consisted of a cup of coffee, half a bottle of water and three biscuits .I would have mentioned sugar, except I’m now doing it Zimbabwe style, and i had my ration for the day with my cornflakes in the morning. My food shortage had nothing to do with my sudden concern about Osama. What? The only reason? Repeat that? No, he didn’t father any child through me! Fine it had A LOT to do with it! Cut me a little slack, I had to think of something other than why the end of the month is taking so long to make an appearance. I wish someone would explain to me, without being patronizing, why my money never seems to last until the end of the month. Is there a money fairy who slips into my wallet and bank account at night?
Mr. Patronizing – (interrupts) yes. Her name is Doubleshotofrum Andacoke-Iceplease. And let us not forget her twin sisters, LeChocolat the French wannabe, and Bookstore.
No one asked you!
Books!
Ok, so everyone should read Welcome to Our Hillbrow if you haven’t already. I’m reading it for my intro to narrative fiction class and it is absolutely brilliant. Without ruining it for you, it’s basically about what’s really happening in South Africa, meaning there’s xenophobia, AIDS, violence, betrayal, and suicide. It’s gritty, beautiful, honest, depressing and hopeful at the same. Yes, I do realize that makes no sense but it is. And even if you couldn’t possibly relate you find yourself relating. No I did not cry. Almost doesn’t count, Brandy said so, so there!
Then there’s Maru. I’m reading it for my intro to African fiction class. (Don’t wonder why a BAPsych is taking so many lit modules. I’m thinking a minor) I don’t understand why this isn’t up there with Pride and Prejudice, Romeo and Juliet, Tristan and Isolde, and Jane Eyre already. This book is poetry. The best part is the ending which is up for whoever’s interpretation, either it’s Cinderellesque, bittersweet,or depressingly realistic. Unless of course you’re the kind of person who has his own interpretation regardless, who insisted that Ariel made the wrong choice when she chose to be with…ugh, I forget his name. But I’m heading off on a tangent. If you are that kind of person you’ll love Maru anyway. You get to analyse and analyse until the trumpets do sound.
Last but not least is New Moon because… No! I am not reading it for my intro to sci-fi/ fantasy class. If there was a class I’d take it in a heartbeat but there isn’t. Oh, there isn’t! Allow me a second to mourn this travesty………….all done. Where was I? New Moon? Oh yes. This book is the first good book I’ve read since I got to this country and Fascination Books is officially my favourite book store in this whole country. You have to understand I’m a fantasy freak. I always have been. It started with C.S. Lewis, and then because there’s this huge dearth in Uganda fantasy-wise I did do the whole Danielle Steele, Mills & Boon, Sweet Valley High thing but rescue came in 1999 when my uncle brought some book that was a hit in the UK and just like that I became a Harry Potter freak. It was while looking for the rest of the Potter series that I stumbled upon Pierce, Tolkien, McCaffrey, Pullman, Bray (insert downward spiral here)…fast forward to today. This book isn’t too shabby. Not to shabby at all. Meyer admits she was inspired by Linkin Park, Coldplay, The Fray, The Strokes, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance et cetera et cetera…With inspiration like that, its not possible for her to do wrong. Now I’m thinking, I don’t eat for the next two weeks I might just be able to afford the next book in the series...
Ooooh yes, the a lil sum’ sum’. I am putting a photo of me here because I FINALLY look nice. The smile is usual, the hotness even I wasn’t aware of. Enjoy!

Ok, Blogger hates me. It won't load any of the buttons so I can't mess with my font, mess with the html bits, preview the post or post pictures...

There are too many days at the end of your money--that is why. I like lit people--they are just interesting in my book.
REPLYYou may check my blog.
Ciao!
Thanx for recommending some books. I was running out of stuff to read. And you remind me of my little sister who will go hungry as long as she has a book to read.
REPLYlol, do read them. I loved them although I love everything I read...
